ESET Review: Antivirus Software Review

Spotlight on ESET:

ESET is one of the lesser known and appreciated players in the antivirus market. Originally founded in 1992, the company has made a reputation for itself as a developer of powerful security products for businesses. ESET specializes in fast, reliable virus protection products but has since branched out into other areas of internet security.

ESET was founded by Miroslav Trnka and Peter Pasko, the original authors of the NOD antivirus software package. ESET currently employs security specialists worldwide in its headquarters in Bratislava, Slovakia and has offices in the USA, Canada, Argentina, Brazil and more..

  • Pros: Easy to use and install. Lots of features. Great performance. Above average file and real time detection rates.
  • Cons: More expensive than some competitors. Mobile protection is expensive.

Ease of Use:

ESET's antivirus products have come a long way in terms of usability. Originally the software was targeted only for IT specialists for advanced configuration and setup of the software package. In the past few years, however, ESET has made great strides to simplify the user experience for users.

Like most other antivirus software packages, users are greeted with a simplified dashboard that gives them quick access to all of the features offered by the software. You can quickly perform system scans, configure your firewall settings and also, if desired, dig deeper into the configurations for advanced setup.

ESET is as easy to use as any other major player in the antivirus market. There are no major hurdles or frustrations that come with setting up system security. Another great feature is the simplicity of setting up parental controls - a default template is set for users based on age and then users can simply check boxes to enable or disable content for selected users.

ESET Reliability:

Reliability is the one area that ESET is most under-valued. For years now ESET has offered some of the best protection available for both real time protection and file protection. These two areas are the most important factors when determining how reliable your antivirus package is.

Real time protection catches viruses before they enter your system. ESET is above average to the other antivirus products currently available. They're also one of the top players for successfully detecting and removing viruses that may already be infecting your system, also known as file protection.

For ESET, you'll get the same full featured virus protection no matter what package you decide to purchase, whether it is ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Internet Security or ESET Multi-Device Security. The multi-device security will allow you to install ESET's mobile antivirus solution on up to 5 mobile devices as well and install the software on up to 5 different computers.

ESET Customer Support:

ESET offers a wide range of customer support for all of their product offerings. Their support site is very well laid out with a guided knowledgebase that will help you find solutions for many of the problems you may encounter. This knowledgebase will even provide customized solutions for the specific product you've purchased.

On top of the knowledgebase, you can also chat with ESET 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through their online chat system or submit a support case to get help via e-mail. There are also step by step video tutorials to learn how to use their software packages.

As of the writing of this ESET review, there are not premium paid support services offered by ESET. So you will need to look elsewhere if you are interested in paying for someone to install or remove viruses from your machine.

Value for Money:

ESET is not too cheap but it's also not too expensive. The first two packages ESET NOD32 Antivirus and ESET Internet Security are definitely competitive compared to other packages with the same features. The higher level package, ESET Multi-Device Security, may be worth the extra money if you want to protect your entire family along with mobile devices.

No matter the package you decide to purchase, you'll still be given a 30 day money back guarantee. If you have any problems or issues with any of their antivirus packages you can get your money back, no questions asked.

Bottom Line:

ESET is one of the most under-rated antivirus packages in the market. You get a powerful, user friendly antivirus package along with advanced features at a very competitive price. ESET security software is just as effective, if not more effective, than many of its competitors - especially in the areas of speed and efficiency.

ESET offers three great packages with a wide range of features. Depending on the package they may include antivirus and antispyware protection, computer theft protection, phishing scam protection, parental controls, e-mail and spam protection, firewall protection, Facebook and Twitter protection and support for up to 5 PCs and Devices.
