Norman offers a number of different anti-virus software packages to help protect users against all forms of malware. This includes spyware, worms, Trojans, and even rootkits. They offer tons of features and even their most basic version is good for three computers. Another interesting thing is that this is a truly global company with offices in at least 11 different countries (including the USA). Their software has also undergone testing by a number of different independent agencies, all with excellent results.
Norman offers three different versions of their personal and small business anti-virus software programs to accommodate users with varying needs of protection. The most basic version is AntiVirus 10. This version offers a small system footprint, running in the background without slowing things down. It also includes built-in rootkit protection and faster, easier detection of a wide range of threats. Additionally, it is Windows 8 compatible and the detection program is cloud-based with real-time updates. Users may download the full version on a 30-day free trial basis.
The other two versions, Security Suite and Security Suite Pro both offer additional features. Some of these include blocking spam from your mailbox, protection against phishing scams, and even a personal firewall. There are strong parental controls which can be customized. For example, set up individual access profiles and even choose/set time limits for kids access the internet (not to mention blocking inappropriate content). All of these programs have been certified by ICSA Labs and Virus Bulletin 100, along with being tested by AV-Test (although it did not receive top test scores). One of the best, and most unique, features offered is the screen saver with malware scanner.
The Security Suite 10 Pro is the top personal/small business anti-virus program offered by Norman. This includes everything offered in their other two options along with an intrusion guard module and additional privacy tools. These allow for the secure deletion of documents and files as well as cleaning up the history and temp files. The parental controls run very smoothly and offer a strong level of protection, including real content control even on individual websites. The personal firewall inspects both incoming and outgoing information from your computer, preventing thieves from stealing your data. It will also stop attacks from infected websites.
One of the more unique features with Norman is that all of their products come with a standard license for 3 computers. This recognizes the fact that most people today will need protection on several different systems, or maybe a main computer and one or two for their children. At first glance, these prices might seem a little high, but you should consider the fact that this is equivalent to buying another companies’ multi-PC license, which is usually significantly more money than their basic advertised offer. With that in mind, these prices are right in line with the industry standards and do provide excellent value for customers.
To be honest, the support set-up offered through Norman is a bit unusual. While the actual technical advice received in excellent and incredibly helpful, the system is a bit difficult to navigate. Once the button for USA Support is located, there are a number of helpful articles and an email option. However, beyond this the only type of support offered is by telephone. Not only that, but this will cost customers $20 per incident. Not many others make customers pay for help.
Using Norman is quite simple and straightforward. The installation wizard automatically detects all of the applications which require internet access and creates rules to prevent conflicts and help ensure your full protection and safety. The program also includes an easy to configure (think automatically) pop-up blocker and email scanner. Really, once installed, everything is essentially automatic.
Norman offers solid protection with a number of excellent features. It uses very little system resources and provides a lot of customization options. You should never need the paid support.
